A cross-border truckload involves more parties than a domestic move: the shipper, the consignee, the carrier, at least one customs broker, and the border agencies of both countries.
Before departure
- Commercial invoice and packing list from the shipper
- The customs broker receives the documents and prepares the release
- The carrier submits the electronic manifest in advance
- The driver carries the release reference
At the border
The border agency may release the truck, refer it for inspection, or hold it for missing information. Most delays trace back to documents that were incomplete or late.
