Carriers must keep an accident register of DOT-recordable crashes for 3 years after each accident.
Motor carriers must maintain an accident register for 3 years after the date of each accident (49 CFR 390.15). Recordable crashes generally involve a fatality, an injury treated away from the scene, or a vehicle towed away because of disabling damage. Post-accident drug and alcohol testing may be required.
