Federal hours-of-service regulations apply to commercial vehicle drivers of extra-provincial carriers.
Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations (SOR/2005-313), south of 60°: no driving after 13 hours of driving or 14 hours on duty in a day; at least 10 hours off duty per day, including 2 hours outside the mandatory 8-hour block, taken in blocks of at least 30 minutes; 8 consecutive hours off before a new shift; no driving after 16 hours have elapsed since the end of the last 8-hour off-duty period; Cycle 1 (70 hours in 7 days) or Cycle 2 (120 hours in 14 days), with cycle-reset rules. Different rules apply north of 60°.
