Provinces register carriers and keep their safety records — for example Ontario's CVOR, Quebec's RPEVL register (Commission des transports du Québec) and safety fitness certificates in other provinces.

Provincial requirements cover registration, safety ratings, intra-provincial hours of service and enforcement. Examples: Ontario — Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR). Quebec — owners and operators of heavy vehicles register in the Registre des propriétaires et des exploitants de véhicules lourds (RPEVL) kept by the Commission des transports du Québec, receive a register identification number (NIR) and a safety rating (satisfactory, conditional or unsatisfactory). Other provinces issue NSC safety fitness certificates. Always check the base jurisdiction's rules.
